Pakistan’s classical music history celebrated at Tehzeeb Festival and Awards

Tehzeeb Foundation hosted their 9th annual Tehzeeb Festival and Awards on 20th and 21st April, 2018, amid a large gathering of music lovers at the Arts Council, Karachi. Recognizing the need for such events, Getz Pharma is proud to sponsor the Tehzeeb Festival and Awards to honor the legends that live among us.

Spread over two days, the event brought together a mix of different genres including classical, folk and sufi. It also included a session on Urdu ghazal, paying tribute to the Urdu classical poets such as Meer, Ghalib and Faiz among others. Local musicians from Mithi, Umerkot and other remote locations of Thar came in especially for the Rajasthani/Thari music session to represent their roots. The classical section of the festival featured Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, and young maestros including Intezar Hussain, Imran Abbas, Nayab Ali and many others. Naheed Siddiqui, the legendary Kathak exponent, and Sitarnawaz Ustaad Nafees Ahmed Khan also gave a recital on ‘Taal Ang’.

The evening followed their award ceremony where Tehzeeb awards were given to Ali Abbas, Nahid Siddiqui, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan and others.

While these musicians are revered and sought after internationally, they are not given many avenues in Pakistan to perform and show our young generation the nation’s rich history in culture and music. Getz Pharma is proud to sponsor such events as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives to revive our cultural heritage.
