Getz Pharma receives Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) award for the 15th consecutive time

Getz Pharma has once again received the ‘Highest Export Performance Award in the Pharmaceutical Sector’ from the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI). Getz Pharma will receive this award for the 15th consecutive year – a unique and laudable distinction for not only the company but also a testament to the growth of the pharmaceutical industry in the country.

This prestigious award was presented to the Managing Director and CEO of Getz Pharma, Khalid Mahmood, to acknowledge the company’s commendable global success and notable contribution to boosting the country’s exports. Getz Pharma has a number of laurels to its credit. The State Bank of Pakistan’s Top 100 Exporters of Pakistan 2020 – 2021 report ranks Getz Pharma as the 46th largest exporter of Pakistan. This makes Getz Pharma the only pharmaceutical company that has made it to the State Bank’s list of Top 100 Exporters.

Over the decade, the pharmaceutical sector has seen steady growth around the world. Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry is not left behind and is slowly picking up pace. One such example of achieving global recognition is Getz Pharma. The company is proud to contribute significantly to Pakistan’s rising pharmaceutical exports. It has been exporting its safe, effective, and world-class pharmaceutical products to more than 25 countries in South Asia, South-East Asia, Africa, and the CIS region.

Achieving the top pharmaceutical company and highest exporter status has not been an easy journey. For Getz Pharma, it required investment in state-of-the-art technology and strict adherence to high-quality standards. At present, Getz Pharma is the only pharmaceutical company in Pakistan with the World Health Organization (WHO) Prequalification and Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S) Certification for Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Gaining these accreditations eliminates the requirement on imported medicines by producing international high-quality standard medication locally.

As a leading pharmaceutical company, Getz Pharma is committed to being transparent and responsible with its operations. In Pakistan, where tax evasion remains a problem, Getz Pharma is also proud to be the largest taxpayer in the pharmaceutical industry.

According to a recent study done at Stanford University, climate change contributes significantly to income inequality between wealthy nations in cooler regions and emerging countries in hotter parts of the world. This is partly because poorer nations have to finance projects to tackle the adverse effects of climate change. Pakistan faces a similar fate: it contributes less than 1 percent to the world’s greenhouse gases yet it ranks globally in the top ten countries most affected by climate change in the past 20 years due to its geographical location.

Since its inception, Getz Pharma has been aware of this and has put preserving the environment as a core part of its CSR initiatives to mitigate the effects of climate change and steer the country towards environmental sustainability. Keeping this in view, the company designed its new manufacturing facility, Astola, to attain the prestigious Platinum status as a LEED-certified manufacturing plant, making it South Asia’s first pharmaceutical manufacturing unit to achieve this ranking.

This reaffirms a firm commitment from the organization to play its part as a responsible corporate citizen of Pakistan. LEED certification for a building requires ensuring and abiding by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) guidelines. LEED-certified facilities are built and designed to battle future challenges of climate change, energy and water shortages, and overall practice conservation of the environment.
