As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, Getz Pharma promotes cultural heritage in the areas of theater, cinema, music, art, and classical dance. Such initiatives foster literacy, cultural tolerance, support customs and arts, thus making lives more fulfilling and enjoyable.
On January 7, 2017, Getz Pharma organized a Kathak performance at its Auditorium, to entertain, educate and provide awareness about this form of classical dance. Kathak, notably practiced between the 12th and the 18th century in the magnificent courts of the Mughal emperors, communicates stories through rhythmic foot movements, facial expressions, and gestures of the arms and the upper body harmonized to music.
Farah Yasmeen Shaikh, a seasoned Kathak dancer with 21 years of experience in the art, performed to a large and appreciative audience comprising of employees, corporate guests and Health Care Practitioners. Through her intricate footwork, in which she controlled more than 100 ankle bells, and graceful rhythmic movements, she performed an original choreographed sequence titled ‘Nazakat aur Taaqat – A Delicate Power’. Esteemed musicians on vocals, tabla, sitar, harmonium and flute complimented Ms. Shaikh’s performance, and through the help of their melodious tunes, transported the audience back into the Mughal era, when moods of love were conveyed through classical Kathak.
During the show, Ms. Shaikh elaborated on the pieces she was performing and the technical aspects of Kathak, which kept the audience thoroughly engaged, informed and entertained. Her commendable performance, led to a standing ovation from the audience at the end of the show. Performances by artists as talented as Ms. Shaikh are rare in Pakistan, and we are delighted that a performer of her caliber was able to join us.
