Diabetes is a chronic, metabolic disease that is rapidly spreading all over the world. Around 1-in-11 people were living with diabetes in 2019 around the world. In Pakistan alone today, 1 in 5 people are diabetic and the number is expected rise to 1 in 3 by 2045. Unfortunately, 50% of diabetics remain undiagnosed and by the time they are diagnosed the disease progresses to an advanced stage.
This World Diabetes Day, Getz Pharma in collaboration with the Pakistan Endocrine Society (PES) launched a multi-pronged campaign to create awareness about this disease and to promote early healthy lifestyle modifications to defeat Diabetes.
Every year, on World Diabetes Day, the Pakistan Endocrine Society (PES) organizes the Annual Scientific Meeting, where subject experts from all over the country share the latest researches and insights for better disease prevention and management. This year, Getz Pharma sponsored the 18th Annual Scientific Meeting 2020, in collaboration with the Pakistan Endocrine Society (PES), featuring the leading Endocrinologists, General Physicians, and Health Care Providers who shared their valuable insights and the latest advances in the field of endocrinology. Due to COVID-19, this seminar was conducted virtually.
To promote early detection to defeat this disease, Getz Pharma also conducted Free Glucose Levels Screening at leading malls across the country on November 7th, 2020. Our teams tested around 1500 people and gave them guidance on diabetes prevention. From November 8th onwards, our teams also conducted free diabetes screening of hospital staff across the country.
Staying true to our mantra ‘We Care For Your Health’, Getz Pharma also organized free blood glucose levels screening for all employees at its head office. After screening, the employees wrote their resolutions for diabetes prevention on the Pledge Wall. While some pledged to have a healthier diet, others made resolutions to increase their physical activity to defeat this disease. On this day, diabetes-friendly meal was prepared and served to all employees at the head office.
Getz Pharma also organized a Diabetes Awareness Walk on World Diabetes day across different hospitals and medical institutions of Pakistan. Leading endocrinologists and general physicians led the walk and showed their support for this cause.
Through all these efforts, Getz Pharma aims to increase awareness about this disease; for awareness is the first step to defeat diabetes!
